Entering scores and fixing a score
Tap a box on the Score tab, type the score on the golf keypad, and tap it again to fix it.
Open your game and stay on the Score tab. Tap the box for a player and hole, and the golf keypad opens.
Entering a score
- Tap the box for the player and hole.
- Tap the number of strokes on the keypad.
- The keypad moves on so you can keep going.
Picked up or didn't finish the hole? Tap X / Pick up. To erase a score, tap Clear.
Scores save and show up on everyone's phone right away. You can enter scores for the other players in your group too.
Under each name you'll see the player's tee and handicap, the same as on the Leaderboard: White · HCP 4.2 · plays 4. HCP is their Handicap Index; plays is the strokes they get in a net game. A women's tee that shares a men's tee name shows as Red (W).
Fixing a handicap during a round
In a net game, a player with no handicap shows No HCP and gets no strokes. If that's you, the Score screen asks once and shows a note with Add: enter your Handicap Index (or your average score). Changed your index in your profile mid-round? The game you're playing takes it right away, your strokes and net score update, and a note in the gallery tells everyone. Finished games never change. The game manager can turn on Lock handicaps once play starts in Game Settings; a player who started with no handicap can still add one.
Scores of 10 or more
Tap 1, then the second digit. For example, 1 then 0 makes 10.
DNF (didn't finish a hole)
Tap X if a player picked up or didn't finish the hole. Putting an X on a hole score is DNF. How an X counts depends on the format: in Stableford it scores the same points as a double bogey or worse. Organizers can turn on DNF players win nothing.
Fixing a score
Tap the box again and type the right number. The new number replaces the old one (unless the box holds a 1, when your next digit adds on to make 10 to 19).
After the round, the organizer can still fix scores in the game, in the app or on the website's game page.
Putts, fairways and greens (optional)
Want more than your score? Each player tracks their own; it's never needed to enter a score. They show in the round summary after the round unless you turn off Show my stats in the round summary on your scorecard. There are two ways:
- On the hole card (Score tab): tap Track my putts, fairways & greens, then tap the fairway on par 4s and 5s (hit, left or right), the green (Hit or Missed, then Where: short, long, left or right in any combination, like short and left) and your putts (0 to 4+). Go back to an earlier hole and your stats for it are still there.
- On your scorecard, during or after the round: on the Leaderboard tap your name, then tap the Putts, FW or GIR row on any hole. Handy if someone else keeps your group's score, or to fill it in at the 19th hole.
Tap a choice again to clear it. Your putts per hole, 3-putts, fairways hit and greens in regulation show in Profile → My stats. If you don't tap the green, it's worked out from your score and putts. Your scorecard shows a stats summary row at the bottom.
Close-ups (closest to the pin)
On a close-up hole, tap Tap to record closest on the hole card. Pick who's closest and, if you like, add the distance in feet and inches. Someone gets closer? Record it again: the new leader takes over and the group gets a close-up alert.
Pin Point (iPhone): measure the close-up with your iPhone's camera.
- Tap Pin Point it under the distance.
- Move the phone slowly over the green for a moment.
- Aim the dot at the ball and tap Set ball.
- Walk or pan to the hole, aim at the center of the cup and tap Set cup.
- Tap Use to fill in the distance, then save the close-up.
A Pin Point photo goes to the game's gallery as proof. iPhone Pro models measure to about an inch up close; other iPhones are less precise on long putts.
Pin Point is in beta. Shadows and low light can throw it off, especially on iPhones without LiDAR (non-Pro models, like the iPhone 13). Stand so your shadow isn't across the ball or the cup, and check close calls with a tape measure.
Close-up distances show in feet and inches everywhere, like 3 ft 5 in.
Pace of play
When groups enter scores as they play, Big Show Golf times the round from when each group's scores came in. There's nothing extra to do. After the round, the game page shows the average round time, each group's time and the slowest holes, and your average round time shows in My stats. Groups that type in all their scores after the round aren't timed.
After a round is played
Once a round is finished, or has scores and teed off more than 24 hours ago, it counts as played. From then on the date, course, tees, players, format and money settings are locked, so results and payouts can't change after the fact.
The organizer can still reopen the round to fix scores, close-ups, a player's tee or handicap index, and the game name. A reopened round finishes on its own 2 hours after the last score change (6 hours at most).
Playing again next week? Use Run It Back to set up a new game with the same group. If something big is wrong, like the wrong course, contact support.
Scores not showing up?
- Check you have signal; scores entered with no signal save on your phone and send when you're back online.
- Make sure everyone's on the latest version of the app.
- Pull down on the screen to refresh.
