Playing Sets
How the Sets format works: 3- or 6-hole sets, the round total, and junk like birdies, skins and sandies.
Sets splits the round into small tournaments. Every set has its own pot, so there's always something to play for, even after a bad hole.
How it's won
- The round is split into sets of 3 or 6 holes. With 3-hole sets, 18 holes is six sets (1–3, 4–6 and so on). A 9-hole round always uses 3-hole sets.
- Each player puts the set amount in for every set. The lowest total for that set takes the pot.
- Ties: the organizer chooses. Carry over (the default) rolls a tied set's pot into the next set, so payouts stay in whole dollars; a tied last set goes into the round total (or splits if there's no total pot). Split the pot shares it between the tied players, which can leave cents (a $4 pot three ways is $1.33 each).
- Turn on the round total and there's one more pot for the lowest 18-hole score.
- Gross or net is chosen when you set up the game, and it applies to everything: sets, the total, birdies and skins.
- Everyone enters a score on every hole, since the whole set counts. An X counts as triple bogey.
Junk
Each piece of junk is turned on separately with its own amount. When you win one, every other player pays you that amount.
| Junk | How it's won |
|---|---|
| Birdies | A birdie (net birdie in a net game). Worked out from the scores |
| Eagles | An eagle. If eagles are off, an eagle pays as a birdie |
| Skins | Win a hole outright. Ties carry over, so the next outright win takes them all |
| Closest to the pin | Closest on the holes the organizer picks. Tap it in on the hole |
| Sandies | Par or better after being in a bunker. Tap it in on the hole (Sandy?) |
Example: four players, $2 sets, $1 birdies. Win a set and you take $8. Make a birdie and the other three pay you $1 each, so you get $3.
Your foursome or the whole field
Choose who plays for the pots:
- My foursome: each tee time plays for its own pots, and junk is paid by the players in your tee time.
- Entire field: everyone in the game plays for one pot per set, and junk is paid by everyone.
The Sets board
Open Leaderboard during the round to see:
- Where the round is: the hole you're through, which set you're on, and how many holes are left in it
- The set being played: everyone's score so far and who's leading
- Every set's winner and what they won
- The round total race
- Money so far for each player: what they've won, broken down by sets, total and junk, and their net
- Every piece of junk as it happens
Tap a player for their scorecard. When the round is finished, the recap in the chat lists who won each set and what it was worth (including any tied sets carried into it), who won the total, and everyone's net. The shared results card and results page rank players by net money won, with their score beside it.
Changing the stakes
The game manager can change set length, amounts and junk in Game Settings until the round has been played. After that, the money is locked so results can't change.
